Intentions feedback four

The feedback given from this tutorial has helped me focus on what I'm needing to do more now.
As I have been practicing my skills on Photoshop with the help of the workshops of Photoshop and the cloud workshop has effectively shown my development and how to take this further.
Producing a colour board has helped my development, what I need to focus on with the colour and the proportions of colour being involved, which I noted that the collection will involve the whole colour palette not just one design needing all the colours in there... The focus is to now start playing around with the colour of my designs now its the colour that needs to be introduced in the right way. Creating a colour proportion palette will help me get this development rolling as well for the digital aspect I will be needing to create colour swatches. As involved in the board can see flashes of colours of like pinks, purples etc which will add a nice touch to the designs. As the majority of my designs have been black, white, green, blue which is still involved in the board but grey tones are introduced as well as the flashes of colours and the greens which this colour choice was worded as 'sophisticated' as still being a minimal but yet complex palette.

Showing four designs (two of these designs shown in Week without tutorial) that shown playfulness, benefited me as the group got the sense I was getting more confident with Photoshop and how I have been able to identify how and where I'm needing to take these prints.. As pointed out, colour is needed. To get the colour palette right and to see how I want the prints to look of either a one off piece or a repeat process. Originally I did like my designs as one offs but I'm feeling the need to create repeats in wallpaper as that being my context, At the moment I'm wanting the prints to be a repeat process as I found it a very helpful skill.
This picture is a quick process learnt on Mondays session of the repeat process, the only issue is the colour with this piece, as some are not the right shades but for the experimental side the repeat process was successful. To carry this development further is start using the correct dimensions for a wallpaper design.

The focus is to get the colour to generate further and to use it correctly through hand and digital to then start to create more designs that could be possible final design ideas, which then I can start thinking about the design context.

Intentions Brief.

Complex – Hard, Difficult, Things in the way.     Geometric.
Minimal- Smallest, Least, Barely adequate

The theme chosen Complex/ Minimal. The reason being that the two words interest me of being so bleak. Nothing by them words can give anything away, it isn’t as straight forward as the other themes. From choosing the words I tried to think of my work of comparing the words to the work produced. I feel confident with the words. I want to understand the meanings more than just my definition of them. To extend the meaning more is having source of materials. I’m needing complex to be more of the source than minimal as the work I produce can be quite minimal but then again it can be very complex. Complex or minimal places? Or Complex or minimal people? I need the source to interest me instantly.
To get this started, Needing to extend my source of material to gather interesting visual research combined with drawings to develop the research further of Complex, Minimal. The likes of shapes and geometrics come into mind for this brief. . Developing this visual research will be mainly through mark makings as very selective colour schemes to which could be complex and minimal. How I interrupt the theme now is I’m using the words more than actually letting the words take the lead.
The specialist area is wallpaper design, Marimekko is the style I’m leaning towards in this brief, Tracy Kendal being a general influence of Kendall’s work being textured. And for complex/minimal I find them words just fit in with the specialist area to which should lead me towards interiors.

Intentions Feedback Three-

Development from last week has came on very well for me- I feel I have enough body of work and that it is coming along more and turning into design development. From last week I have been developing my work to hopefully become designs. I have focused on pattern, composition, layers as well as relating back to the theme of complex/minimal. I have been using my inspiration of a few artists and designers to help further my work, Holly wales and Merimekko have been an influence to my work at the moment.
Holly wales using shapes and overlaying the shapes on top of eachother and having them showing and create other shapes through the colours. Ive been trying to allow layering to create more detailing in my works.

Merimekko has inspired my design thoughts of the black and white media mainly but the pattern process and also being geometric and it was one certain piece that has really influenced my work, I have taken from this work of using the shape and working a pattern into a shape.

Taken from the tutorial it was clear to see the development and how it flows well because of how I'm trying loads of different ways to explore designs of media, scale, compositions.
Also to further my development Alex said Photoshop and illustrator to be used, I need to get my practice in now! Be skilled! Allow myself to play around and explore the different tools and techniques that Photoshop can allow me to do.
I do feel I need to be more skilled on Photoshop and illustrator as it will really benefit me in the long run- hopefully the workshops being organised will help me with the designs.
So from this week im going to focus more on Photoshop of trying to create designs that could make my work evolve more and to hopefully make more creative and exciting.

Ruthin craft center - W is For Wallpaper

19.10.15 9.30am Monday - Old school of art. Outside coach.
I didn't really know what to expect with this exhibition or Ruthin Craft centre in general. But wow. Inspiring, incredible, every textile/ designer dream in this building.
What I liked was the fact that it wasn't too much, it was not too much information going through your mind and not to much walking in and out of big rooms with tons of work. It was a really quirky place but beautifully designed, reminded me of a holiday cabin.
The exhibition was wonderful. It just let me really embrace the exhibition.
Susan O'Byrne - Five sisters and a family tree.
This collection made me smile, it was cute with the animals but so detailed and creative.O'Byrne body of ceramics with its detailing pattern reminded of the theme Complex/minimal- the colour of the deer was so minimal and on the back of the deer it was so complex with detailing pattern. it was how the composition was  thought of not having the pattern all over it has been placed.

Julie Blyfield- Panorama
Blyfield interest me from how the jewerlly was placed in its glass boxes but it was how Blyfield let you take an insight of how her work was created which in exhibitions you don't really get to see the development its always the end piece and that made me take note of how I should be allowing my sketch book or even loose sheets to tell the journey to tell the development, show how I've got to this end result.

W is for wallpaper- So many designers I could say in this collection but the ones that made me think of techniques that could really work were
Tracy Kendall, Jon Burgerman and Sian Elin.
Sian Elin work is more relevant to what im doing now of the geometric shapes involved but it was the use of minimal colour involved in Elin work that I found suited me well.
Tracy kendall Iam a fan of- it was this piece again of the word minimal that triggered in my head of how minimal but complex it was being filled with textures.
Jon Burgerman was how it was not my usual sort of style which is why Burgerman interest me of how its so playful and just not what you expect of wallpaper, the composition thought in this work is what interest me of the whole piece not being all over colour and not being all over black and white it has proportion of colour which is what makes this piece more interesting.

Due to me wanting to attend ruthin craft center, I did not attend a tutorial this week.

Intentions Week without Tutorial.

Due to not having a tutorial this week, I feel I need to reflect on what I have done so far.
My influence of Marimekko has driven me more and more.
Taken from the feedback majority of this week I have been trying to get my practice in for Photoshop. I have created a few designs to start me off and letting myself make mistakes make good mistakes etc.
I have tried to let my Photoshop reflect my hand drawn designs of keeping the nice lined shapes and creating the patterns within the circle also of not always having a white background. As can see one of the designs has one of my hand drawn designs repeated into the background which I carried through with me from the Photoshop workshop. This certain one I like as I feel it gives it more texture to the piece as well as fits in with the theme complex/minimal.

What has really brought my designs on more was attending the cloud workshop, even though learning the basics of Photoshop and even the commands I found it very beneficial and my Photoshop designs have came on a lot more. I feel more confident with these newer ones- you can compare the two and see the improvement.. Again with the newer designs I have changed the background colours to not just be white or black so that I can have white and black involved in my motifs. I feel the newer designs are a lot more experimental as well as they reflect my hand drawn work more also as allowing to think more about composition of how to position these shapes to create clean crisps shapes with detailed mark making involved.
I do like a few of the digital designs, but I feel my hand drawn work communicates my theme more and has that unique line making of the continuous line which I have really developed on and I don't know how to create that continuous line in Photoshop.
I have not focused on my drawing much this week as been trying to create designs through Photoshop but I had started to create compositional ideas of how the circular shapes should be positioned which I have tried to reflect that through with the digital designs of the circles.

I'm feeling quite confident with the progress of Photoshop and waiting to learn more in the
workshop sessions provided to let my work develop further as I may find some more techniques beneficial so I can improve more on Photoshop and then hopefully my designs.

Intentions Workshop- Drawings Task Two.

Think About Print Design process. The Approaches, starting to think and create design ideas by playing around with them. For this Task of using Three images of our own work to bring and photocopy two lots of. The Three Pieces I chosen were for these reasons. The first is what I produced in the other workshop session and it was the layers and the mark making that I liked about this piece. The second piece was the line work involved and how again they overlap which gives the piece a geometric feel. The third was the vibrant green that stood out for me and the bold collage squares.
Task- Design ingredients, element's to make designs. Develop drawings to designs- photocopies into collage. working in layers, seeing the designs in layers. screen and scale, scale up- larger equipment being used - bigger brushes a projector.
Create a design using photocopies and a range of media to then play around with a repeat process, experimenting to which should design real  life designs.
This Task I did find hard to grasp at first as to think like a designer of what would work for others than yourself. selecting key sections out of my own work, which areas would work like that and then this, it was quite hard at first. the aim was to create one design piece your happy with. my first attempt I photographed to see which way the pattern would look better but I had to leave it in the end as I couldn't get the feel. I would get back to that work.

Starting a new design was a bit more easier as I knew what didn't work for me in the last one even though I did leave it half way through.. well this design I started to think more of my lines that the circles and of what of the circles worked for me better to give an interesting shape. I liked how this piece didn't repeat itself very much but it looked like a repeat if that makes sense. the lines really helped bring the piece in more giving your eye more to look at and using smaller circular shapes to get more detail involved. the detailing was influenced by Timorous Beastie of his attention to detail being small and big.

The first design I started I did eventually start to work back into the design of using colour to help further the thought as well as repeating process.
The outcome of both of the works have made me think more of colour, pattern and composition to which for the rest of the week I will be thinking more of to create further designs.

Intentions Tutorial- Feedback two.

Own Photo- Church Macclesfield

Own Photo- Macclesfield
The progress beginning to find new initial research has benefitted my newer drawings a lot, I felt I had more to work with and to create with. Visiting a church in my home town of Macclesfield. this church is located right in the town centre of Macclesfield as is known for its calmness whilst sit eating butty in the sun. I felt a church would further the development of its shapes from the architecture as well as the gates.

Placing work on the table and looking at it as a whole piece really surprised me as I felt like it really did create something on its own, all different qualities of drawings, techniques presented together as a whole thing. As I explained of what the images consist of was me working freely with the theme and developing the theme I had picked up which related to shapes mainly circles and squares. Producing many drawings to keep generating an idea it was clear to see I was happy with the drawing side and could further the idea in each design but some designs were very 'smart' 'clean' where am used to 'mess' I explained this to the group of how my style has adapted in this certain theme. Also lacking was colour- I don't know I felt like I needed a colour scheme as the work being mono.
Development work. Created on a App.
The feedback I was given was very assuring and I just had in my head of the group being disappointed with what I've produced for some reason, but again I was the same last week as its a hard position to be in speaking in a tutorial.
It was noted that I should 'not feel'- 'don't feel' meaning don't try and get colour out of my work it will happen naturally as it has been in my work already of which I had not noticed before that the colour green has slowly made an appearance, but if I felt like I want to then to try a range of colours- subtle colour maybe to relate to the minimal side of the theme.
Balance- mark making, clean. experiment the theme OPPOSITES.
Scale- Up the scale, get out of sketch book. A3,A2,A1 play around with the scale.
Composition- think a little more into the composition. ( Drawing workshop will help think more about that)
Research- Ell Decorations. Ikea of the Swedish interiors, outside the United Kingdom of interiors like Northern Europe- Scandinavia
From the feedback the plan is to defiantly have a look back at the work and look at my key elements to  get my work to look like something. Again keeping the drawings flowing and developing them more and more to which hopefully by next week you can start seeing a development come together of designs.
